LONDON, November 26, 2025 – Nettle, an AI-powered risk engineering platform for commercial property insurers, has been named the winner of the Insurtech Award at the FF News | Fintech Finance Awards 2025. The ceremony took place on 25 November at Old Billingsgate in London, bringing together leaders from across banking, fintech, and insurance for one of the sector's most closely-watched awards programmes.

The FF Awards are one of the UK's most independent industry awards programmes. Organisers describe the process as "aggressively anti-pay-to-play," with judging handled entirely by senior practitioners from incumbent financial institutions rather than sponsors or vendors. Each entry is individually reviewed and scored, with winners determined by panel vote.
The Insurtech Award specifically recognises companies using AI, data science, or automation to transform underwriting, claims, and risk assessment. Nettle's award was voted on by a panel of senior insurance leaders including Jillian Slyfield (Aon), Joel Agard (Zurich Insurance), Marina Belezina (Aviva), and Sarah Kocianski.
The other finalists in the Insurtech category were Additiv, Fadata, SAP Fioneer, Sureify, and Vortex Weather Insurance, reflecting a strong field of companies working across different parts of the insurance value chain.

Nettle's winning submission focused on the structural capacity crisis in commercial property risk engineering. With more than 40% of property risk engineers in the UK and Europe set to retire within the next five years, and the training pipeline unable to keep pace, carriers are under growing pressure to assess more risks with fewer experts. Nettle's platform automates large parts of the risk engineering workflow, from pre-survey preparation through to post-visit report generation, allowing engineers to focus on the judgment that only they can provide. Commercial insurers using Nettle have reported productivity gains of up to 5x in risk assessment throughput.
The Best Insurtech win caps a landmark 2025 for the company. In June, Nettle took home the top prize at Guidewire's InsurPitch London competition, judged by senior leaders from Travelers, PwC, Insurtech UK, and Guidewire. In July, the company joined Guidewire's Insurtech Vanguards programme, gaining direct access to Guidewire's global network of P&C carriers. Three recognitions in six months, each from a different corner of the industry, suggest the problem Nettle is solving is resonating well beyond any single audience.
